Okay put the light sabre pitchforks down and hear me out.

I want a full remake of KOTOR and KOTOR II. Don’t get me wrong, seeing the Old Republic rebuilt from the ground up with modern gameplay and production values would be a dream come true. But with the remake seemingly stuck in development hell, maybe it’s time to ask a hard question: do we really need it?

We first heard about the KOTOR remake back in 2021, and since then, it’s been radio silence. Development was originally handled by Aspyr, then handed over to Saber Interactive after internal issues and a reportedly underwhelming demo. As of now, there’s no clear release window or even confirmation that it’s still actively being worked on.

So what if, instead of a full remake, we got an Oblivion-style remaster?

Oblivion Remastered has set a new standard and showed us something important: we don’t mind a bit of old school janky gameplay and a few nostalgic quirks(okay bugs), as long as the game looks fresh and plays smoothly. Throw in some quality-of-life improvements, updated UI, modern resolution support, maybe a few new quests or restored cut content, and presto; millions of happy players.

So this is my message to the devs: help us, you’re our only hope. If the remake isn’t coming any time soon, give us a faithful, polished remaster instead. Let us return to a galaxy far away.

If a remake was off the cards, would you be happy with a remaster?
