Another stacked month of video games in an already massive year

2023 has been a great year for video games and it shows no sign of letting up! Below we’re gonna list all of the major video game releases in October 2023, their release dates and a little bit about them.
We will be patiently holding off on most of these games for more gameplay footage or better value. However there are one or two we may go day one purchase mode for.
Every game featured is on this page, we’re not here for cheap clicks. We also want to know what you’re most hyped for so please vote in our poll below!

Spider-Man 2 – PS5 – Release Date: 20.10.23
Our editor Jordan is a Marvel comic and specifically a Spider-Man fanatic. (don’t ask his favourite Spidey film unless you want a lecture) He is very excited for the next chapter in Peter Parker & Miles Morales’ story.
Spider-Man 2 promises to be bigger and better with both heroes playable from the get go. The map has been expanded and will now feature Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn. Finally, perhaps most importantly the cast of villains will feature Kraven the Hunter, The Lizard and Venom.
TPG Hype level: All of the above means a potential Day One purchase for Jordan.

Alan Wake 2 – PS5 – XBX – PC – Release Date: 27.10.23
Sequel to the cult classic Alan Wake which we will be streaming on our Twitch channel leading up to release. (give us a follow!) Alan Wake 2 takes place 13 years after the original and also features a second playable character.
Like the original, Alan Wake 2 will mix things up. Sections of combat, detective work and puzzles but the story is most likely going to be vocal point of the game.
TPG Hype Level: Our writer and Resident Evil Expert Connor is very excited for this one.

Lords of The Fallen – PS4, PS5 – XBO, XBX – PC – Release Date: Friday the 13th of October (Spooky)
Newest entry to the “Soulslike” Genre and what seems like a Reboot of one of the earliest Soulslike games The Lords of the Fallen. I’ve seen a good chunk of gameplay for this and I am quietly optimistic about it.
It looks like CI Games have really captured a lot of what has made the Dark Souls Series so entertaining whilst also adding their own unique twists. Firstly the ability to place your own bonfires (checkpoints) will certainly force the player into interesting choices. Secondly the ability to jump between Axiom the world of the living and Umbral, the mirror world of the dead is sure to bring some exciting gameplay twists.
TPG Hype Level: I’m holding off to see a little bit more gameplay footage or even a trial before purchasing.

Super Mario Bros Wonder – Switch – 20.10.23
Classic side scrolling Super Mario Bros gameplay is back, but now with added twists. Mario, Luigi and a massive roster of playable characters have been invited to the Flower Kingdom. I think it’s just a few kingdoms down the road from the Mushroom Kingdom.
It’s here where they meet a caterpillar-type being Prince Florian. But, low and behold the incorrigible Bowser strikes again stealing the kingdoms Wonder Flower. It’s now up to Mario and Co to stop him.
New world, new power ups, new playable characters, I’m sure there are plenty more surprises in store for Super Mario Bros Wonder.
TGP Hype Level: Editor Jordan loves a Mario game I can see him getting this at some point this year.

Assassins Creed Mirage – PS4, PS5 – XBO, XBX – PC – Iphone 15 Pro? Release Date: 5.10.23
The latest instalment in what seems like a never-ending series of Assassins Creed Games. I was a big fan of the Original Assassins Creed as well as all of the Ezio Games but admittedly for me the formula grew too bloated and outdated as the series went on.
Developed by Ubisoft Bordeaux who made the wrath of the druids DLC for AC: Valhalla, we are promised that the series is going back to its roots. Focusing more on stealth gameplay and assassinations as opposed to a massive open world of checklist missions. Sounds great so far and the recreation of a 9th Century Baghdad does look incredible.
Hopefully they deliver come the 5th!
TPG Hype Level: I’m a sucker for a stealth game, I want to support AC going back to its stealth roots but with more modernized gameplay. I’m not sold on a day one purchase but the lower price tag of £50 seems worth it for Basim’s adventure in AC: Mirage.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol.1 – PS5 – XBX – Switch – PC – Release Date: 24.10.23
Kept you waiting huh? Konami have certainly kept us waiting but Metal Gear is finally making a comeback. There’s a lot to be excited about with the all the first 5 games in the series being made available in one place on modern consoles and PC.
Its worth mentioning that Metal Gear Solid 3 is getting a from the ground up remake named Metal Gear Solid Delta. Could this mean MGS1 & 2 potentially getting the same treatment in the future? I can dream can’t I?
It’s a great time to play through this iconic series again or even to start it from the beginning if you’re new to the series. (I’d recommend starting at Metal Gear Solid and going from there).
The interesting thing here is the Vol.1 at the end of the title hints at the existence of a Vol.2. This could potentially mean a ‘suped-up’ version of Metal Gear Solid 4 without all the loading screens. Finally freeing MGS4 from its PS3 Cell would be another dream come true. Which could also mean an updated PS5/XBX version of MGSV.
TPG Hype Level: I can’t wait to return to Shadow Moses Island so this will be a day one for me.

Detective Pikachu Returns – Switch – Release Date 06.10.23
Alright, I’m a massive Pokémon fan. I’ve played all the mainline games and spent countless hours in shoddy battle (an online Pokémon battle simulator) back in the day. However the spinoff games have never really interested me that much.
Detective Pikachu swaps battling for investigating as you try to uncover the mystery of what happened to Tim’s father, Harry Goodman.
Explore Ryme City looking for clues and crime scenes to make your own deductions. Get help from other Pokémon and their special abilities. Work together with your Pokémon friends to uncover the truth.
TGP Hype level: Based on the rarity of Nintendo price reductions it may be a while before we play this

Hellboy Web of Wyrd – PS4/5 – XBO/X – Switch – PC – Release Date: 18.10.23
Developer Upstream Arcade look to have created an authentic adaption of Mike Mignolas world. This 3D Rogue-like with a Cell shaded art style brings comic book pages to life. Hellboy himself is voiced by the late, legendary Lance Reddick. Whats not to like?
Explore the depths of the Wyrd fighting all manner of beasts and demons along the way.
TPG Hype Level: Comic Buff Jordan is looking forward to this one but a bit further down the line.

Forza Motorsport – PC – XBO(Via cloud)/XBX – Release Date: 10.10.23
Coming day one to Xbox Gamepass! A (soft) reboot of the Forza Franchise. Sitting closer to a hardcore racing sim than a casual arcade racer.
Creative director Chris Esaki stated that Forza Motorsport has been “built from the ground up” to take advantage of the Xbox Series X, and claimed it is the “most technically advanced racing game ever made.”
Massively improved AI, more customisation options as well as a revamped career mode offer something for everyone. Turn 10 have announced today over 500 cars will be available at launch. 100 of them will be new to the franchise also.
TGP Hype Level: Looking forward to giving this a try through the Xbox Gamepass

Total War Pharoah – PC – Release Date: 11.10.23
The next major title in the Total War franchise takes us to Ancient Egypt.
Assume the role of a Pharoah, managing your kingdom’s resources, armies, and diplomatic relations as you strive to build a dynasty that will stand the test of time. With its immersive historical setting and deep strategic gameplay.
TGP Hype Level: This one has really flew under the radar. I need to finish Total War campaigns in Warhammer 3 and Three Kingdoms before considering this.
